Kimba Free Campground - Big Lap Adventures

Updated: Oct 7

ree

Kimba, South Australia, is a small farming town well known for being 'Halfway Across Australia' and also for its massive statue of a pink Galah. Located approx 470 ks to the west from Adelaide, the town is a tightknit farming community that has seen it's fair share of struggles.

The recreation reserve is home to the Kimba free campground. This campground is split into 3 different areas, and is the largest free camp ground we have visited in some time.

The amenities are very clean and always stocked with loo paper!
The amenities are very clean and always stocked with loo paper!

Within the camp ground are lovely clean amenities blocks, with showers at a small cost of $1 for 2 minutes, plenty of bins scattered throughout the grounds, many trees offering shade from the harsh sun, dump point with room to park your van while you empty your toilet casette, a massive sheltered camp kitchen with 4 free BBQs, bench space, sinks and lots of picnic tables, SA Water filtered water station to fill bottles, and a playground next to the tennis and basketball courts.

The camp ground is free to stay at, for a maximum of 5 nights, however donations are welcome to keep up the running of the camp ground. Donation boxes are located at the end of the amenities blocks.

Pets are welcome, the night skies are beautiful being far from the city light pollution, and the Roora Nature Trail is just metres away. Plus, you don't even need to unhitch if you're only stopping for a short while. And there are many drive through spaces!
