Located approx 310 kms north of Adelaide, is the coastal town of Port Augusta. The town has pretty much everything you need by way of groceries, camping / caravan gear and things to keep the little ones entertained.
We stopped in for our first night at the Discovery Park, as our destination was further than we would drive in one day. Ordinarily, we have never made it our place to stop and stay a few days, more that it's on the route we travel on.
A nice little park, we paid $31.50 for the night, this was with our G'Day Parks membership. The park is secure with high fences. Many different site options to choose from and many types of cabins also. We opted for the powered site, situated on gravel. It was a decent size site with enough room to park our caravan, open our awning and park our car.
The amenities were okay, but half of the cubicles were blocked off. There are free BBQ areas, a pool and playground for the kids. A movie room and games room is a nice little addition as well. A decent camp kitchen for guests to use, plus a gymnasium also. The communal firepit is a nice way to sit around with a bevvy and meet other travellers.

As this was the first night of our trip, we didn't need to get any laundry done, which is usually the first thing on my chores list when we stay in a park. We filled both our water tanks as we left home with only one full, mainly for flushing the toilet and rinsing cups etc. Our next stop will be Kimba, which is a free camp so we want to arrive with 2 full water tanks.
We plugged into mains power also, and charge up the battery, which really wasn't down much as the sun charged most of it while we drove the 4 hours. Charging our lights, phones, ipads, laptop etc is another important thing for us to get done before we head off grid.
